30 January 2025 Cpln. Simphiwe Nqabisa (Western Cape)

I am deeply grateful for the support and compassion SAFReC has shown me as a chaplain in the Western Cape. SAFReC has been there during our toughest times, offering comfort, a listening ear, and spiritual guidance. Their dedication to our well-being, both emotionally and spiritually, has been a lifeline. SAFReC’s presence reminds us that we are never alone in our work, and we are thankful for their ongoing support.

30 January 2025 Cpln. Sakkie van Zyl (Nigel)

Serving as a SAFReC Chaplain has been a transformative experience, allowing me to minister to schools, care centers, and community groups. Through prayer, counseling, and outreach, I've witnessed lives changed. SAFReC has empowered me to extend my ministry and support those in need, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve God in this way.

31 January 2025 Cpln. Estelle Botes (Centurion Pretoria)

Two years ago, I was at my lowest point, contemplating suicide. But then, a chaplain arrived at my door, offering love, prayer, and presence. That moment saved my life. Today, I am living proof that God sees us even in our darkest moments, and He uses others to remind us of His love and purpose.

1 February 2025 Cpln. Solly Ngwenya (Kwa-Thema)

Wearing my SAFReC uniform in public has opened many doors for ministry, from local clinics to schools. The support from the community and fellow chaplains has been overwhelming. There is growing interest from pastors eager to be trained, and I look forward to continuing this work.

3 February 2025 Cpln. Mike Andrew (Roodepoort)

Being a SAFReC Chaplain has led to many unexpected opportunities for ministry, including praying for people in stores and helping those facing personal crises. The responsibility is great, but the joy of serving and making a difference is even greater. It’s an honour to be part of God’s work.

3 February 2025 Cpln. Carrol-Anne Coetzee (Pretoria)

I’m incredibly thankful for the regular soup and vegetable donations that help us serve over 250 homeless individuals in Pretoria. Your support has made a tremendous impact, both financially and emotionally, for those in need. Thank you for your generosity and compassion.

3 February 2025 Cpln. Annemarie Joubert (Pretoria)

Through SAFReC, I’ve had the privilege of ministering to the elderly at Beterskap Retirement Village. We’ve built meaningful relationships and provided ongoing support. Many elderly people feel neglected, and through small acts of mercy, we offer them hope, prayer, and love.

4 February 2025 Tannie Meraai (Beterskap Retirement Village, Pretoria)

SAFReC has been a blessing to us. From soup and prayer to providing health support, their presence has made a significant difference in our lives. We are truly grateful for their compassion, and my husband’s health has improved thanks to their help.

What is a Community Chaplaincy

Chaplaincy traces its origins to St. Martin and his cloak. His act of sharing his cloak exemplifies the fundamental principles of chaplaincy - compassion, selflessness, and service - through small acts of kindness. This example laid the groundwork for the establishment of chaplains in the Police Force, the Military and Correctional Services.

The concept of Community Chaplaincy evolved from the experiences of chaplains in the above-mentioned forces. It emerged in response to the need for compassion within local communities, aiming to close the gaps through pastoral care, crisis intervention, and community engagement. This evolution underscores the continued importance of chaplaincy in promoting emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being in various circumstances.
